According to the CoinDesk report, the event was largely attended by PayPal and eBay employees, as well as representatives from bitcoin startups and curious members of the Silicon Valley tech community. The presentations were largely intended to be introductions to the concepts and technology behind digital currency, and the growing role of the technology and payments industry in the bitcoin community. Speakers included Scott Robinson from Plug and Play Technology Center, Jonathan Zobro from SMS bitcoin wallet maker 37coins, and Fernando Gouveia from Xapo.
CoinDesk quoted Robinson as having one of the key quotes from the event, noting that bitcoin’s appeal is often hard for people in the economically stable U.S. to fully appreciate. “We’ve never really been asked questions about the dollar. We’ve never really worried about the dollar.”
It’s no secret that PayPal and eBay are both actively developing some form of bitcoin integration. In June, eBay CEO John Donahoe said that the company would eventually have to accept digital currency, although he declined to give a timeline for his company’s adoption.
