Until today, deal-hungry Canadians with BTC to burn still had to cash out their bitcoin the old-fashioned way. According to the company’s Ask Me Anything on Reddit, the launch of Canadian bitcoin-payment support has been in the works for quite a while, and was part of a slow roll-out as the company tested the system in the U.S.
Speaking with CoinDesk, TigerDirect’s marketing director Steven Leeds explained the expansion:
The demand has remained constant with bitcoin purchasing on our TigerDirect.com site. The demand has not just been in products, it’s also been in social outreach. We’ve been in contact with our reddit community, and they’ve been asking us when this was going to be rolled out in Canada.”
As with their U.S. system, the Canadian branch of TigerDirect will use Atlanta-based payment processor BitPay to handle their bitcoin transactions. TigerDirect also has several retail locations, and said that an in-store bitcoin payment option was “on the roadmap.”
