Today, Imgur representatives have confirmed to Coin Fire that they will be adding bitcoin payment options for their premium accounts. Although free for most users, Imgur offers paid “Pro” accounts for high-volume users. The company also has a popular online store, and it’s likely (though unconfirmed) that this will also accept bitcoin.
The move isn’t terribly surprising, as Imgur is already highly used on Reddit, home to one of the largest English-speaking bitcoin forums. Imgur also has very close ties to noted bitcoin-backing venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, from whom the company raised $40 million earlier this year.
Imgur has yet to confirm this via their own media, but it’s a fairly safe bet that Coin Fire’s assertion is accurate. It’s not known when the integration of bitcoin payments will take place, or which payment processor the company will use. (Given the Andreessen Horowitz connection, Coinbase is likely.)
