Although it’s not in the big leagues with Yahoo, Bing and Google, search engine DuckDuckGo has established a nice for itself among privacy-minded web users thanks to its “no tracking” policy. Not surprisingly, the search engine has a loyal following in the privacy-minded bitcoin community. Over the weekend, DuckDuckGo took a step aimed at formalizing that relationship by integrating bitcoin price quotes in related searches.
At the moment, the bitcoin-related search functions are fairly limited to simple queries, such as the exchange from USD to BTC. Most such results pull directly from the Blockchain.info API. Searching for prices of common items priced in bitcoin, however, reveals no results. It’s a symbolic first step, perhaps, but those searching for a comprehensive bitcoin-based shopping search engine will likely be disappointed.
Most other search engines feature bitcoin prices in the top of their search results, although none currently feature it as prominently as DuckDuckGo does. Given the natural fit of DuckDuckGo’s user base and bitcoin’s tracking adverse culture, it would not be surprising to see the search company focus on new bitcoin-related features in the near future. Implementing them, however, could prove trick, as the company does not track user data.
