In the press release about the partnership, Demandware Senior Vice President Tom Griffin said that the BitPay partnership gives his company’s clients “access to another innovative solution … further enhancing the consumer shopping experience.” The sentiment was echoed by BitPay co-founder Tony Gallippi, who noted that the integration will “make it as easy as possible for merchants around the world to add bitcoin into their payment systems.”
Demandware’s client list includes Adidas, Lacoste, Pier 1 Imports and Saks Fifth Avenue, just to name a few. Although none of those brands have given any public indication that they will be accepting bitcoin in the near future, the Demandware system will allow such payments to be activated in a matter of hours.
The BitPay platform will allow merchants to accept an unlimited amount of bitcoin payments without processing fees, and to receive daily payments in nine local currencies. The Demandware deal follows last month’s news of a similar integration deal between Coinbase and Shopify.
