Online marketplace CeX is something of a clearinghouse for used technology and entertainment products. If you live in the U.K. and have a used smartphone, a bunch of dust-gathering DVDs or an old DSLR camera, CeX lets you trade it in for cash. Starting this week, you can also swap out your used possessions for bitcoin.
According to the site, the bitcoin payout amount will be determined at the current market price, and only after the products have been tested.
Although CeX is hardly a retail giant, the company does have around 250 stores worldwide. It’s unclear if the company is offering bitcoin payouts in their locations outside the U.K. In addition to their U.K. stores, CeX has locations in the U.S., Spain, Ireland, India and Australia.
Several online electronics resellers currently offer bitcoin payouts, including U.S. companies Glyde and MintSpare, but CeX is thus far the only such company with a significant retail presence.
