Why Bitcoin Outperforms Traditional Assets

Since 2016, Bitcoin has delivered returns that dwarf traditional investments. A $1,000 investment in Bitcoin in January 2020 would be worth over $9,000 today — compared to roughly $2,400 in the S&P 500 and $1,200 in US real estate over the same period.

This isn’t luck. Bitcoin’s fixed supply of 21 million coins, combined with its four-year halving cycle, creates programmatic scarcity that no other asset class has. As institutional adoption grows and supply shrinks, the price appreciation has been consistent across every four-year cycle.

How This Calculator Works

Our What If calculator uses daily historical price data for Bitcoin going back to 2016, sourced from CoinGecko. Stock and ETF data comes from Stooq, and US median home price data comes from the Federal Reserve (FRED). All data is updated daily.

We calculate your hypothetical return by dividing your investment by the asset price on your chosen date, then multiplying by today’s price. No fees or taxes are factored in — this is a raw price performance comparison.
